Mellen Meyer is a unique negociant grower for a number of reasons but can be distilled more or less into two primaries. The first is that his entire focus is sparkling wines which are among the most time and labor intensive to bring to market. The second is his house style to source only from older vine, dry farmed vineyards making the resulting grapes a wholly transparent expression of their growing site. The result of this is arguably one of the best examples of sparkling on the entire market and cement’s Oregon’s reputation for cool climate excellence. The Willamette Valley bottling is sourced from Whistling Ridge’s North Vineyard in Ribbon Ridge and Johan Vineyard in the Van Duzer Corridor. The marriage of these two sites creates a near perfect juxtaposition of fruit expression and Oregon terroir, knitted together by a mouthwatering spine of acid.
